China Congress Puts People First
At annual Beijing meeting, Premier Wen Jiabao announces plans to slow growth in the cities and boost development in the countryside

China has been growing incredibly fast, but all of the growth has been concentrated on the eastern seaboard and in Special Economic Zones (SEZ) like Shanghai and Shenzhen. Much of inland China has yet to see any economic benefits from China’s growth. I don’t know how Premier Wen Jiabao plans to entice corporations to move inland, but that movement is inevitable as labor prices continue to rise.
